CASE PROFILE - Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease With Multiple Ulcers Secondary To Diabetes

Treatment Prior to Initiation of Low Intensity Laser Therapy:
• high doses of several antibiotics
• vasodilators
• analgesics
• daily dressings utilizing numerous topical applications

Progress on the Above Regime:
• increase in pain
• gradual enlargement of ulcers
• foot cold, discolored, and painful to touch

Treatment at Laser Rehabilitation Centre:
• open treatment of wound (discontinuation of all dressings and topical applications).
• elimination of medications with the exception of analgesics p.r.n.

Course of Treatment Initiated - June 17, 2006
Discharge – October 31, 2006

The patient had approximately forty treatments at irregular intervals as he was traveling much of the time from date of presentation until discharge. At the time of discharge, ulcers of both lower extremities were completely healed with only one exception; an ulcer between two toes which was ninety percent closed. The feet were warm, relatively normal in color and he was ambulating without pain.

Final Result:
• fully functional
• asymptomatic
• zero medications with exception of insulin
